US Secretary of State Marco Rubio surprised many earlier this month when he swapped diplomacy for the DJ booth at a family wedding, and many expected a live performance from him on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the United States.
However, when asked about it at an event in Delhi, the top US diplomat said no to any performance anytime soon, citing contractual obligations.
“There is more entertainment to follow, there is more fun to follow. I unfortunately, will not be able to perform tonight because my contract with Sony does not allow me to perform in unsanctioned events,” he said at the event celebrating 250 years of America.

However, Rubio indicated that it was not the end of his stint at the console. “If you come to our 251st birthday, you never know. But for our 250, I just can’t do it contractually…It’s an honour to be with all of you. Thank you to India for welcoming us. May God always bless America,” he added.
Rubio As 2026’s Wedding DJ
Earlier this month, a video shared by White House deputy chief of staff Dan Scavino went viral on social media, showed Rubio behind a DJ console at a family wedding, wearing headphones and operating music equipment as guests danced.

Rubio, who currently holds multiple key positions including secretary of state, national security adviser and head archivist, is often dubbed the “Secretary of Everything” for juggling several responsibilities simultaneously.
Rubio’s Birthday Celebrations At Bharat Mandapam
Meanwhile, the US Secretary of State celebrated his upcoming birthday at the Bharat Mandapam venue with great fanfare, involving lights, cameras, butter chicken and handshakes. Rubio cut a giant cake on stage, with ‘YMCA’ and ‘Happy Birthday’ playing in the background.

Rubio, who will turn 55 on May 28, expressed gratitude to India for the invitation and said the two countries are perfectly positioned to work together on several key issues to improve the lives of the people in both countries.
“India is one of those countries that I know that we have this very valuable strategic partnership with, and we share so many values and common interests,” he said.
