'DGMO Said...': Army Chief Upendra Dwivedi Recalls How He Got Info About Pahalgam Attack

Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army, General Upendra Dwivedi, revealed that he feels “slightly cautious and apprehensive” while standing on the rostrum to address an event in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025.

The barbaric terror attack, in which 26 tourists were gunned down by Lashkar-linked terrorists, prompted an Indian military response against terror hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7, in which Pakistan’s airbases were targeted, and over 100 terrorists were killed.

Speaking during a book launch on Thursday, General Dwivedi recalled how he got information about the Pahalgam attack. “Whenever I stand on the rostrum after 22nd April, I am always slightly cautious and apprehensive, because

on 22nd April, when I was taking the retiring officer seminar, and I was done with three-fourths of my address,” he said.

“Suddenly, Rajiv Ghai, the DGMO at the time, walks in and says, “Sir, chota sa. (Sir, just a little).” So, when the DGMO says ‘chhota sa’, you can make it out. He came in between your talks and what you were about to say, so there must be something more. Whenever I stand on the rostrum, I am always reminded of those days,” he added.

Last week, the Army Chief emphasised that Operation Sindoor against Pakistan, and Indian forces are closely monitoring every move by the enemy, even as the overall security situation remains under control.

Speaking at an investiture ceremony at the South Western Command in Jaipur on Wednesday, General Dwivedi said the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force jointly struck nine terrorist camps and infrastructure targets in Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, completing the operation with precision in just 22 minutes.

“Within 88 hours, our precision, professionalism and operational superiority forced Pakistan to agree to a ceasefire,” he said, calling it a demonstration of India’s capability to protect national sovereignty and interests. He also said future wars cannot be won by a single force alone and require a coordinated national effort.
