Manchester City boss Khaldoon Al Mubarak touched up on the future head coach role at the club following the departure of tactician-par-excellence Pep Guardiola after the conclusion of the bygone season of the Premier League.
Former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has been touted to take up the mantle, but Al Mubarak remained tight-lipped on the certainty of the future of the hot seat at City.
“What I can say at the moment is we’ve gone through a very thoughtful and structured process and the team is convinced, I am convinced, that we will bring in the right manager for this club.
“Just be patient with us. Very soon we’ll announce it and you will be very comfortable that we have selected and brought in the best manager possible.”
City haven’t managed to
clinch the PL title in two years on the tort as Arsenal, and Liverpool before that foiled Guardiola’s plans. Yet the Catalan ended up with a cabinet full of trophies with City during his time in England.
We are far from peaked. We are used to – because it’s in our DNA – winning. This is a club that is designed, built to win.
“Obviously with the additions we’re going to make this summer, I am very confident. I think next year we’re going to come back very strong.”
Arsenal celebrated their first Premier League title in 22 years, having already secured the league ahead of Manchester City, and rounded off the season with a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace. Pep Guardiola’s City ended with a 1-2 defeat to Aston Villa as he bid farewell to England.
Manchester United finished third behind City, their 3-0 away win over Brighton capping a recovery under Michael Carrick. Captain Bruno Fernandes set a new record with 21 assists, surpassing Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne, and collected both the Football Writers and Premier League Player of the Season awards.
Aston Villa under Unai Emery and Arne Slot’s Liverpool took fourth and fifth to secure Champions League qualification, while Bournemouth and Sunderland claimed the Europa League spots in sixth and seventh. Brighton finished eighth to reach the Europa Conference League play-offs despite their heavy loss to United.
Tottenham avoided relegation with a 1-0 win over Everton, rendering West Ham’s 2-0 home victory over Leeds meaningless in the survival battle. Brentford came ninth after a 1-1 draw with Liverpool, with Chelsea 10th following a 1-2 defeat to Sunderland.
Fulham’s 2-1 win over Newcastle saw them finish 11th ahead of the Toon Army, Everton were 13th and Leeds 14th. Already-relegated Wolves and Burnley ended their campaigns with a 1-1 draw.
