Mona Singh began her journey on television but soon moved to OTT and films, creating a strong place for herself in both the digital and big-screen space. From Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin to 3 Idiots to Ba***ds of Bollywood, Mona has consistently portrayed memorable characters over the years.
In a recent interview with Bombay Times, Mona spoke about how certain stories and characters can only exist on OTT. She also said that because of strict censorship on television, actors like her would never have gotten the opportunity to explore layered and complex roles.
Mona Singh on Why OTT Works Better for Her Than Television
Mona stated that the kind of content audiences watch online would never make it to television because the medium is bound by heavy censorship
and numerous restrictions. She said, “As an actor, you wouldn’t get the chance to portray such complex characters there. I’m happy people have embraced OTT.”
Mona noted that actors, writers, and creators are in a promising phase, with numerous stories to explore and ample opportunities to push creative boundaries.
About Her Inspiring Journey
Mona began her acting career on television with Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin in 2003. She spent over a decade working in a variety of shows, and hosting reality programs before transitioning to films and eventually OTT projects. The actress explained, “I didn’t know anyone when I came to Mumbai, so everything that happened feels like a bonus. I’ve always likes to challenge myself as an actor and I feel blessed that I’m getting such brilliant opportunities on OTT now.”
‘No Desire To Return To TV’
The 3 idiots actress explained that leaving television was a deliberate choice, as she felt she had already explored all it had to offer, from daily soaps and reality shows to hosting. The decision to move on was intentional, and although the transition wasn’t easy for her, she waited patiently for the kinds of roles she wanted. “It took time, but it was worth it. I’m doing films too, I’ve three coming up next year, and I’m happy to be balancing movies and OTT,” she said.
Mona Singh will next be seen in Border 2 which is slated to release on January 23.
