Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jul 3 (PTI) Eight rain-related deaths have been recorded in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Parbhani and Nanded districts of Maharashtra’s Marathwada region since June 1, an official said on Friday.
These comprise three each in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Nanded and two in Parbhani, he added.
Citing an official report, he also said 181 animals have died due to rain across Marathwada during this period, including 81 in Nanded and 31 in Hingoli.
Monsoon fury has caused damage to 195 ‘kuccha’ houses as well as 484.45 hectares of farm land, 456.70 hectares of which had fruit plantations, the official informed.
“Since June 1, the Marathwada region has received 130.9 millimetres (mm) of rainfall, which is 86.1 per cent of the average
expected (152 mm),” he said.
The report said Bharat Kadam of Hadgaon (Nanded), Shaikh Rashid, Gunwant Kinake of Kinwat (Nanded) and Sarjerao Kharate of Sillod in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar died of lightning strikes, while father-son duo Tarachand (45) and Aniket Jonwal (13) of Phulambri were killed in a wall collapse.
It said Deepali Nandge died in Parbhani after a tin shed fell on her due to gusty winds, while Mangalbai Khandagale (65) of Jintur drowned. PTI AW BNM
