Romance often comes with challenges, but what happens when differences in wealth and social background enter the picture? A college freshman has shared her struggle with this exact dilemma. In a story
that feels ripped straight out of a drama series, she revealed that she is dating a young man from an “extremely elite” family, a discovery that has left her questioning everything about her relationship.
‘Boyfriend Deserves Better’
In a Reddit post titled “My boyfriend deserves better,” the woman explains that she met her boyfriend in high school.
“He’s that guy who could walk into a room and everyone would turn their heads. Tall, muscular. good-looking, well-spoken, basically the kind of person who just has it,” she wrote.
They connected at an event, and though she initially distanced herself to focus on college applications, fate brought them back together later.
It was after they started dating that she learned just how elite his background is. “His dad owns a real estate company, and they have multiple estates in Delhi and Mumbai. He mentioned once that his dad was a businessman, but he never acted rich or snobby, so I didn’t think much of it,” she said.
‘The Thought Keeps Haunting Me’
The revelation has left her feeling out of place. “His world feels too different from mine. I’m just a normal girl from a regular family, not from the same social circles, not the “glamorous” kind. And no matter how hard I try to shake it off, this thought keeps haunting me: his family would never accept someone like me.”
Despite her fears, her boyfriend’s affection is unwavering. She admits to having attempted breakups using random excuses, but he refuses to let go. “He genuinely loves me, and I don’t understand why. I feel average, boring, ugly compared to him. I’m just a loser,” she confessed.
“He’s like the main character, and I feel like a background extra. I love him, but I can’t stop feeling like I don’t belong in his world. What should I do?” she concluded.
How Did Social Media React?
The post soon went viral.
A Reddit user commented, “It feels like some serial story lol. A rich guy is dating a normal girl. Don’t leave him, and I think you should tell him how you are feeling when you are with him. Maybe it may work.”
