Shares of Marksans Pharma Ltd. gained over 8% on Wednesday, April 1, after the company said the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) has given its Benzonatate Capsules has received the US drug regulator's nod.
The company said it received the US Food and Drug Administration's (USFDA) final approval for its abbreviated new drug application (ANDA) for the capsules in the 100mg and 200 mg strengths.
The product is bioequivalent and therapeutically equivalent to the reference listed drug Tessalon Capsules, 100mg and 200mg, of Pfizer Inc, the company said.
Benzonatate is a non-narcotic antitussize that numbs stretch receptors in the respiratory tract, reducing the cough reflex and relieving persistent cough, bronchitis, pneumonia or other lung infections, Marksans Pharma added.
In November last year, Marksans Pharma's wholly-owned subsidiary received the USFDA's final approval for for the over-the-counter Loperamide Hydrochloride Tablets USP, 2 mg.
The company said the Loperamide Hydrochloride tablet is an anti-diarrheal medication used to control symptoms of acute and chronic diarrhea.
Shares of Marksans Pharma are trading 7.6% higher at ₹168.8. The stock is still down 6% so far in 2026.
