Closing Bell | Markets snap two-day losing streak but 23,000 remains a barrier for Nifty

Closing Bell | Indian equity markets rebounded on Wednesday, snapping a two-day losing streak, although indices ended off their intraday highs amid some late-session profit booking.

The benchmark BSE Sensex rose 1,187 points to close at 73,134, while the Nifty 50 gained 348 points to settle near the 22,700 mark at 22,679.

The rally was largely driven by index heavyweights such as Reliance Industries, State Bank of India and Larsen & Toubro, which emerged as the top contributors to the gains. Market

breadth remained firmly positive, with advances significantly outpacing declines, reflecting broad-based participation.

Broader markets outperformed the benchmarks, with the midcap index rising 1,169 points to 53,819, while the Nifty Bank index advanced 1,173 points to 51,449. The advance-decline ratio on the NSE stood at a strong 12:1, underlining bullish sentiment across segments.

Among individual stocks, shares of BSE surged 7% after the Reserve Bank of India deferred the implementation of its liquidity tightening framework by three months to July 1, 2026.RateGain Travel Technologies jumped 10% after Investec initiated coverage with a ‘buy’ rating, while InterGlobe Aviation climbed 6% on the back of lower-than-expected aviation turbine fuel prices.

Tenneco Clean Air rose over 2% after a ‘buy’ initiation by Citi, while Eternal gained 4% following the launch of Blinkit services at Mumbai’s Terminal 2 airport. Garden Reach Shipbuilders rallied 20% after reporting its highest-ever annual revenue for FY26.

On the downside, Ashok Leyland fell over 3% after its March sales missed estimates, even as auto majors such as Eicher Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra and Maruti Suzuki gained up to 4% following their monthly sales updates.

Overall, the session marked a recovery in sentiment, with investors stepping in after recent declines, even as markets remained cautious amid broader macro and global cues.
