Maruti Suzuki India has commenced commercial production at the fourth plant of its Hansalpur facility in Gujarat, increasing the site's annual production capacity to 1 million vehicles and taking the company's total manufacturing capacity to 2.9 million units per year.
The new plant, with an annual production capacity of 250,000 units, began operations on Thursday (July 30) and will initially manufacture the company's battery electric vehicle, the e VITARA. The addition raises Hansalpur's annual capacity from 750,000 units to 1 million units.
The company said the milestone makes Hansalpur the first Suzuki manufacturing facility globally to achieve an annual production capacity of 1 million vehicles at a single location. It also becomes India's largest passenger vehicle manufacturing facility at one site.
Maruti Suzuki said it has invested ₹25,288.7 crore in the Hansalpur facility so far, including an estimated ₹3,900 crore for the fourth plant. Hansalpur accounted for around 47% of the company's vehicle exports in FY26 and currently manufactures the Baleno, Fronx, Swift and e VITARA.
Gujarat to support future capacity expansion
Commenting on the expansion, Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Maruti Suzuki India, said Gujarat had become a manufacturing and export hub for the company and that the fourth plant "augments its annual production capacity to one million vehicles."
He added, "The new line will further strengthen our ability to meet the growing demand from customers in India and overseas while advancing our 'Make in India, Make for the World' vision and expanding our global footprint."

Speaking on the company's manufacturing plans, Takeuchi said, "Together, the Hansalpur and the upcoming Sanand facility in Gujarat will play a pivotal role in achieving our long-term ambition of producing 4 million units annually in India."
The Hansalpur facility began operations in 2017, with subsequent plants commissioned in 2019, 2021 and now 2026. According to the company, the site crossed cumulative production milestones of 1 million vehicles in 2020, 2 million in 2022, 3 million in 2023, 4 million in 2025 and 5 million in May 2026.
Following the commissioning of the fourth plant, Maruti Suzuki's manufacturing network comprises Hansalpur with an annual capacity of 1 million units, Manesar with 900,000 units, and Gurugram and Kharkhoda with 500,000 units each, taking the company's total annual production capacity to 2.9 million vehicles.
Shares of Maruti Suzuki India closed 0.71% higher at ₹14,047 apiece on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on Thursday.
