Foreign institutional investors remained net sellers of Indian equities on Friday, offloading shares worth ₹930.90 crore, according to provisional data, while domestic institutional investors continued to support the market with purchases of ₹1,968.17 crore.
The selling came as the Sensex and Nifty closed lower, although both benchmarks recovered sharply from their intraday lows. The Nifty Bank rebounded more than 900 points from its low, led by financial stocks.
The Sensex fell 121 points to close at 74,782, while the Nifty declined 80 points to end at 23,398. The Nifty Bank gained 135 points to 56,607, while the Nifty Midcap index fell 160 points to 62,197.
Financial stocks led the late recovery, with HDFC Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank among the key contributors to the Nifty Bank’s rebound. Select IT stocks also attracted buying at lower levels, with Tech Mahindra and Wipro gaining about 1% each. Dr Reddy’s Laboratories rose 2% to finish among the Nifty’s top gainers.
FIIs sell, DIIs support market
The latest fund flows extended a recent pattern of foreign selling and domestic buying.
On Thursday, FIIs were net sellers of ₹438.24 crore, while DIIs bought ₹1,025.85 crore. FIIs bought shares worth ₹11,882.95 crore and sold ₹12,321.19 crore during the session.
DIIs, meanwhile, bought shares worth ₹13,326.33 crore and sold ₹12,300.48 crore.
The broader market remained under pressure on Friday. Realty stocks declined amid expectations of higher interest rates, with Godrej Properties falling 7%.
Cochin Shipyard dropped 9% after giving cautious guidance for FY27, while PI Industries fell more than 4% after Kumiai, one of its major clients, cut its guidance.
Supreme Industries and Astral fell 4% each on demand concerns, while metal stocks declined in line with weaker prices. Nalco, Hindustan Zinc and NMDC fell 2–3%.
Capital-market stocks recovered in the final hour, with BSE and Angel One closing about 5% above their intraday lows. Fintech stocks including Paytm, Pine Labs and MobiKwik also gained as much as 5%.
Banks largely recovered from their lows, with Yes Bank among the top gainers, rising 5%.

Max Healthcare, Adani Enterprises, Adani Ports and Apollo Hospitals were among the top Nifty gainers for the week.
Among midcaps, Paytm, Bandhan Bank, Laurus Labs, Blue Star and Yes Bank were among the biggest gainers, while Godrej Properties, SAIL, PI Industries and Cochin Shipyard were among the major losers.
