During this period, the helpline addressed 67,265 consumer grievances related to refund claims. The e-commerce sector accounted for the highest share, with 39,965 grievances and refunds totalling ₹32 crore. This was followed by the travel and tourism sector, which recorded 4,050 grievances and refunds amounting to ₹3.5 crore.
The National Consumer Helpline operates at the pre-litigation stage under the Department of Consumer Affairs, Government of India, and aims to resolve consumer grievances without the need for approaching consumer commissions under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
Data shared by the department showed that the top five sectors contributed more than 85% of the total refunds facilitated. In addition to e-commerce and travel and tourism, agency services saw refunds of ₹1.35 crore, electronic products accounted for ₹1.17 crore, and airlines for ₹95.56 lakh.
