Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) continued to lead equity purchases on Tuesday, while foreign institutional investors (FIIs) also turned net buyers, according to provisional exchange data.
DIIs were net buyers of ₹1,664.16 crore, purchasing equities worth ₹18,256.88 crore and selling ₹16,592.72 crore.
FIIs also ended the session as net buyers, with inflows of ₹755.33 crore. Foreign investors bought shares worth ₹17,530.97 crore, while offloading ₹16,775.64 crore during the session.
On Monday, FII offloaded shares worth a provisional ₹1,688.23 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) had extended their buying streak with net purchases of ₹2,329.14 crore.
Despite net buying by both foreign and domestic institutional investors, Indian equity benchmarks ended flat on Tuesday, with IT stocks continuing to see buying even as FMCG heavyweight Hindustan Unilever weighed on the market. Midcaps outperformed the benchmark indices, while market breadth remained in favour of declines.
The Sensex fell 70 points to 76,766, while the Nifty slipped 11 points to 23,985. The Nifty Bank index declined 332 points to 56,756, while the Midcap index gained 48 points to 62,352. The advance-decline ratio stood at 1:2.
Hindustan Unilever was the top loser on the Nifty after reporting a miss on volume, falling 7%. IT stocks continued to attract buying, with TCS and Tech Mahindra emerging as the top Nifty gainers.
Among individual stocks, Radico Khaitan surged after upgrading its volume and margin outlook for FY27. Chola Investment ended in the red but came off its lows after reporting an in-line quarter.
Suzlon, Godfrey, and Varun Beverages fell by as much as 10% after reacting negatively to their results. Avenue Supermarts declined 5% as commentary at its analyst meet weighed on the stock.
Coforge rose over 10% after saying FY27 is expected to be an exceptional year. Lodha extended its gaining streak, rising 9% on the day and 36% this month. IEX added to Monday's gains to close 4% higher, while Pine Labs saw a sharp recovery from its lows after raising its guidance for margin.
Separately, the Indian rupee strengthened by 6 paise to close at 95.85 per US dollar on Tuesday, compared with its previous close of 95.91/$ on Monday.
