No plan to start an airline; doesn’t fit our capital discipline, says Jeet Adani


The Adani Group has no plans to enter the airline business, with Director Jeet Adani making it clear that aviation does not align with the group’s investment philosophy or return expectations, even if regulatory constraints were to ease in the future.

“Oh no, absolutely not,” Jeet Adani said when asked about a possible foray into airlines while speaking in an exclusive interview. “Structurally, the airline industry is not something that we see fitting our capital discipline. We’re very used to investing in high-margin businesses and sweating assets. Airlines are the complete opposite from a unit economics point of view. It doesn’t make sense for us — not today and not even in the future.”

Adani Group does not expect an immediate reduction in debt, but is focused on reshaping its borrowing profile by refinancing operational assets through long-tenure capital market funding, Jeet Adani said on Thursday, December 18.

Speaking to CNBC-TV18, Adani said the group’s approach is to use Indian banks primarily during the construction phase of large infrastructure projects, and then refinance those loans once assets become operational and cash flows stabilise.

Shares of Ola Electric MobilityLtd. gained as much as 10% Friday, December 19, after founder Bhavish Aggarwal continued to dilute his stake for a third consecutive session. Aggarwal sold shares through block deals on the NSE between December 16 and December 18.

On December 18, Aggarwal sold 2.83 crore shares at an average price of ₹31.90 per share. This marked the third straight day of selling, following stake sales worth ₹234 crore across the first two tranches.

Bank of Japan raises interest rates to the highest in 30 years, warns of more hikes

Bank of Japan on Friday, December 19, hiked its interest rates to the highest level in 30 years. It has hiked the overnight call rates by 25 basis points to 0.75%. The Bank of Japan said real interest rates are expected to stay significantly negative. BoJ said it will keep raising rates if the economy, price outlook is realised.
