What is the story about?
Logistics company DTDC Express has launched a digital self-onboarding platform aimed at helping micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), startups and direct-to-consumer (D2C) brands access shipping services more quickly.
The platform, called Enterprise Digital Onboarding Technology (EDOT), allows businesses to register, complete know-your-customer (KYC) formalities, add banking details and begin shipping through a fully digital process.
According to the company, the onboarding process can be completed in less than 10 minutes without human intervention.
The launch comes as a growing number of small businesses and online sellers expand through e-commerce and digital marketplaces, increasing demand for faster access to logistics services. Industry participants have often cited lengthy documentation requirements and activation timelines as barriers for smaller enterprises seeking organized logistics solutions.
DTDC said the platform has recorded more than 22,000 registrations so far, with over 5,000 businesses completing the self-onboarding process. The company added that users have come from more than 2,200 pin codes across the country, including Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets.
The move is part of the company's broader push towards digitalisation and automation of customer-facing services. DTDC recently introduced an AI-powered multilingual chatbot, DIVA, to handle shipment-related customer queries. The company said the tool currently processes over 150,000 shipment inquiries each month across more than 17 regional languages.
For MSMEs and D2C brands, quicker onboarding could reduce the time required to start shipping products and potentially lower operational hurdles associated with setting up logistics partnerships. The platform also reflects a broader trend in the logistics sector towards self-service digital tools aimed at improving access for smaller businesses.
DTDC operates one of India's larger logistics networks and has been expanding its use of digital technologies as competition intensifies in the country's fast-growing e-commerce and MSME segments.
