What is the story about?
NPCI Bharat BillPay Ltd (NBBL), a wholly owned subsidiary of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), has onboarded Delhi Traffic Police on its Bharat Connect platform under the e-challan category, enabling citizens to pay traffic challans through Bharat Connect-enabled applications.
The integration has been facilitated by State Bank of India (SBI), which is acting as the Biller Operating Unit (BOU) for the implementation.
With the move, users will be able to search, view and pay traffic challans digitally across platforms integrated with Bharat Connect, part of the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) framework regulated by the Reserve Bank of India.
According to the company, Delhi Traffic Police issues more than 28,000 challans daily through camera-based enforcement systems and physical ticketing. Earlier, challan payments were primarily routed through the Delhi Traffic Police website, POS machines, cash payments, demand drafts and cheques.
NBBL said the integration is aimed at expanding digital payment access for civic and government-related services through interoperable public payment infrastructure.
The development adds Delhi to a growing list of states and authorities using Bharat Connect for e-challan collections, including Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Himachal Pradesh.
Delhi Traffic Police said the integration is intended to improve citizen convenience and support technology-led traffic management systems.
Bharat Connect, operated by NBBL, is part of India’s digital public infrastructure ecosystem and supports interoperable bill payments across categories including utilities, education, insurance and government services.
