ABB India Ltd. on Tuesday, October 28, announced it has launched new variable speed drive (VSD) modules at its Peenya factory in Bengaluru to expand local production.
As a result, the company said its capacity
to produce drives locally has gone up by about 25%. VSDs help industries reduce power consumption by matching motor speed to actual demand.
The new production line will help ABB cut delivery times by up to 40% and produce customised drives to serve diverse industrial needs. It will also produce drives with large power ratings for a variety of industries, including buildings, data centers, water, cement, and metals, the company said in a release.
AR Madhusudan, Business Line Manager, Drive Products at ABB India said the focus on local production enables the company to meet market demands more reliably and quickly, especially as it leverages cutting-edge automation.
“As we mark two decades of drives production in India, this expansion reinforces our strong commitment to advancing local production capabilities and delivering energy-efficient technologies for India’s industries,” Madhusudan said.
The company also said that the manufacturing line was designed with integrated robotics to automate the production of a key component that enables ABB drives to deliver high energy efficiency and reliability. It can also handle production of large batches with speed and precision.
“The latest expansion and upgrade of the drives factory in India reflects our focus on advancing local production and technology capabilities in line with the country’s growth ambitions,” said Tuomo Hoysniemi, Division President, Drive Products, ABB Motion.
ABB India is an electrification and automation major based in Bengaluru.
In August, the company secured an order worth ₹173.55 crore to manufacture and supply wind turbine converters from Siemens Gamesa Renewable Power Pvt. Ltd in Chennai.
