The equity benchmark indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty closed in the green on Monday (February 2) after a volatile trading session, ending near the day’s high. The Sensex rose 944 points to close at 81,667, while the Nifty gained 263 points to settle at 25,088, closing above the 25,050 mark. Nearly 40 stocks on the Nifty ended in positive territory.

Shriram Finance Ltd, Axis Bank Ltd, Infosys Ltd, Max Healthcare Institute Ltd, Cipla Ltd and Titan Company Ltd were the biggest laggards.
Power Grid Corporation emerged as one of the top Nifty gainers, rising 8% after the company raised its FY26 capital expenditure forecast to ₹32,000 crore from ₹28,000 crore. Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles climbed nearly 6% after the company reported a 47% year-on-year rise in total January sales. Adani Ports, Tata Consumer Products and Bharat Electronics Limited also featured among the top Nifty gainers, with gains ranging between 4% and 8%.
In the midcap space, MRPL, Hindustan Zinc, HPCL and Bharat Forge were among the top performers, rising between 5% and 10%. Shares of UPL gained 6%, while Sundaram Finance jumped nearly 9% following its Q3 results. Capital market-related stocks such as BSE and Angel One rose up to 5%, recovering from losses seen after Sunday’s fall.
Mahindra & Mahindra advanced 3% after both its auto and tractor segments reported strong growth in January. On the downside, Insecticides India slipped nearly 1% from the highs after the management cut its FY26 revenue growth guidance.
