JSW Thermal Energy Two Limited, a subsidiary of JSW Energy Ltd, has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL) for a greenfield 1,600 MW thermal power project in West Bengal.
The project will comprise two units of 800 MW each and will be commissioned at Salboni within six years. The plant has been awarded through a competitive bidding process conducted by WBSEDCL and will use domestic linkage coal allocated to West Bengal under
the SHAKTI B (iv) policy.
This is the second PPA signed by the company with WBSEDCL, following the signing of a similar 1,600 MW agreement in March 2025.

Sharad Mahendra, Joint Managing Director and CEO of JSW Energy, said, “I am pleased to announce the signing of our second 1,600 MW PPA with WBSEDCL for a thermal power project at Salboni, increasing our total capacity at the site to 3,200 MW. This makes Salboni our largest single-location asset and reinforces our commitment to India’s energy security through the supply of reliable and affordable power. The project benefits from its strategic proximity to coal blocks, as well as synergies with the existing 1,600 MW unit under construction, driving significant operational efficiencies.”
JSW Energy currently owns and operates 5,658 MW of thermal generation capacity. With 3,200 MW under construction at Salboni and an option to add 1,800 MW at KSK Mahanadi, the company’s total thermal capacity is expected to rise to 10,658 MW, with the entire incremental capacity based on domestic coal.
The company has a total locked-in generation capacity of 32.1 GW, comprising 13.3 GW operational, 14 GW under-construction across thermal and renewable projects, 150 MW of hydro capacity under acquisition, and a pipeline of 4.6 GW.
JSW Energy also has 29.4 GWh locked-in energy storage capacity, including 26.4 GWh from hydro pumped storage projects and 3 GWh from battery energy storage systems.
JSW Energy has stated that it aims to reach 30 GW generation capacity and 40 GWh energy storage capacity by 2030, and to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
