What is the story about?
The state of Tamil Nadu in India is poised to finalise agreements totalling approximately ₹150.5 billion ($1.58 billion) for over a dozen new initiatives from foreign companies, a Reuters report said.
As per the report, this is part of a greater effort that encompasses nearly 100 agreements.
In a newspaper advertisement, the state government announced its intention to sign 97 agreements valued at ₹674.52 billion, which is expected to generate more than 100,000 jobs. The report indicated that this total also includes investments from Indian firms and expansions of current facilities.
This marks the first investment conclave since actor-turned-politician Joseph Vijay assumed the role of chief minister in May, as his administration aims to attract more business to India's leading manufacturing state.

Furthermore, the new projects feature an investment of around ₹5 billion from US server manufacturer Super Micro Computer and ₹20 billion from the France-based construction firm Saint-Gobain.
In their report, Reuters said that they reached out for comments from Saint-Gobain, Super Micro, and the Tamil Nadu government went unanswered.
Tamil Nadu is an industrial powerhouse and is regarded as one of the most industrialised states in India. As per some estimates, Tamil Nadu ranks as the second-largest state in terms of GSDP after Maharashtra. In addition, as per a PRS estimate, the state has a GDP per capita of ₹457,717, one of the highest among large states in India.
