The fact that it closed above the 24,300 mark on Wednesday would please the bulls, who would now look to take the index towards its next hurdle zone of 24,500. Experts believe that a decisive move above 24,500 could even take the index towards the 24,800 mark. Today is also the Sensex weekly expiry.

Any further fall in oil prices, and a subsequent impact on the currency and bond markets would continue to soothe frayed and uncertain sentiments. The Nifty Bank closing above its 20-DMA is also a positive and the 55,000 level, which was a barrier till now, could now act as a support after Wednesday's breakout.

While no Nifty names report today, major broader market names like Pidilite, Biocon, Bharat Forge, Dabur, Escorts Kubota, MRF, Sonata Software, Thermax report numbers today.
