What is the story about?
Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has secured a ₹1,251 crore contract from the Ministry of Defence for the supply of Ground Based Mobile Electronic Intelligence System (GBMES) to the Indian Army, marking a significant addition to its order book.
The GBMES is a fully indigenous, state-of-the-art electronic intelligence system designed by the Defence Electronics Research Laboratory (DLRL), Hyderabad, and manufactured by BEL. The system is capable of detecting, classifying and locating various types of radar signals, while also intercepting and analysing communication signals.
As a networked intelligence platform, GBMES is expected to significantly enhance situational awareness and strengthen the Army’s air defence capabilities, underlining India’s push towards self-reliance in critical defence technologies.
Following the announcement, BEL shares ended near their intraday high of ₹436.30 on the NSE, reflecting positive investor sentiment around the order win.
The latest contract builds on BEL’s steady order momentum. In April, the company had secured fresh orders worth ₹569 crore across a range of defence electronics, including avionics, electronic warfare systems, communication equipment and laser-based technologies.
For FY26, BEL reported total order inflows of around ₹30,000 crore, including export orders worth $346 million. Export sales during the year rose 33.6% to $141.9 million, highlighting growing international demand for its products.

With a strong pipeline of defence contracts and increasing focus on indigenous capabilities, BEL continues to reinforce its position as a key player in India’s defence electronics ecosystem.
