WPIL shares surge on order win but stock facing worst year since 2008

Shares of WPIL Ltd. were trading with gains of as much as 12% on Monday, December 12, marking the stock's biggest single day rise in nearly four months.

Trading activity also picked up, with more than 1 lakh shares changing hands for the first time in a month. Around 1.8 lakh shares were traded during the session, which is higher than the 20 day average volume of about 22,000 shares.

Despite the sharp rally, the stock continues to trade below its key moving averages, with the 50 day moving average placed at ₹421 and the 200 day moving average at ₹423.

WPIL shares have declined 44% so far in 2025, marking their worst yearly performance since 2008.

The move in the stock comes after the company announced that its South African subsidiary, PCI Africa Consortium, has been awarded a contract worth ₹1,340 crore for the upgrading and expansion of the Macassar Wastewater Treatment Works for the City of Cape Town.

WPIL's share in the project is estimated at around ₹630 crore, with the project scheduled to be executed over a period of 54 months.
