What is the story about?
NTPC Limited said on Wednesday, April 8, that it has signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Electricite de France (EDF) to explore cooperation in developing new nuclear power projects in India, following approvals from relevant government ministries and departments.
As per a press release filed at the exchange, the MoU was signed by Arnada Prasad Samal, CGM (Nuclear Cell), on behalf of NTPC, and Vakisasi Ramany, Senior Vice President, International Nuclear Development, representing EDF.
The press release highlights that MoU establishes a framework for both companies to jointly assess feasibility and collaboration approaches, including evaluating EDF’s EPR technology for Indian requirements, exploring localisation opportunities for large-scale deployment, and examining economic and tariff aspects.
The agreement also covers developing human resource capabilities through training programmes, evaluating potential project sites, and providing technical support as mutually agreed.

The company said that the initiative aligns with NTPC’s strategy to expand into clean and reliable energy while contributing to India’s long-term energy security.
In a seperate development, the PSU informed the exchange that the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has uprated the capacity of its two units (Unit no. 5 and 6) of Dadri Thermal Power Station from 490 MW each to 500 MW each with effect from 7th April 2026.
Shares of NTPC Limited closed at ₹373.00 on April 8, gaining ₹4.15 or 1.13% during the session, reflecting mild positive sentiment in the market.
NTPC currently operates over 89 GW of installed capacity, with an additional 32 GW under construction, and aims to reach 149 GW by 2032, including 60 GW from renewable energy sources.
