Young Indians are not just tech-savvy, they are shaping the future of fitness. According to the boAt Crest Data Trend 2025 report, Gen Z (aged 18–29) accounts for 75% of all AI-powered fitness plan and coach subscriptions on boAt’s smartwatch platform, signalling a major shift towards guided, intelligent wellness.
The report, released by boAt, an audio and wearable brand, draws on anonymised data from millions of users on the boAt Crest app, which functions around fitness tracking, wellness challenges,
and AI-driven health insights.
Shyam Vedantam, Chief Product Officer at boAt, said, “AI is moving wearables beyond mere tracking into building consistent, achievable habits. Young Indians are leading this shift, and the next phase of wearables will anticipate user needs, offering personalised fitness plans and recovery insights that evolve with behaviour.”
Beyond adoption, the data points to a broader behavioural shift in how young Indians approach fitness. Users aged 18–29 accounted for 48.3% of all calories burned on the platform in 2025, reinforcing Gen Z’s role as the most physically active cohort. Users logged more than 6.5 million activity sessions during the year, with younger users driving intensity while older age groups showed steadier, consistent participation.
The report also highlights a preference for achievable wellness goals over extreme targets. The 20,000-step challenge emerged as the most popular community initiative, accounting for nearly half of total participation, while walking continued to dominate as India’s most common form of exercise, followed by running and treadmill workouts. Emerging participation in strength training, functional fitness and sports such as cricket and badminton points to a gradual shift toward lifestyle-led fitness among smartwatch users.
