India's net direct tax collections rose 13% year-on-year to ₹12.1 lakh crore between April 1 and September 17, the Income Tax Department said in a statement on Friday.
Direct tax collections, which include corporate tax and income tax, increased by more than 15% year-on-year on a gross basis to ₹14.3 lakh crore during the same period, according to the department.
The difference between gross and net collections reflects tax refunds issued during the period.
Richa Sawhney, Partner - Tax, Grant Thornton Bharat, said direct tax collections continue to indicate healthy underlying economic activity and a strengthening tax base.
“While higher refunds have moderated net tax collection growth, they also reflect improved efficiency in refund processing, ensuring timely relief and liquidity for taxpayers,” Sawhney said.
She added that the steady growth in advance tax payments was a positive indicator of taxpayer confidence, business performance and expectations of sustained income growth.
