The announcement came alongside the release of a new Economic Impact Report by Keystone Strategy, which stated that Amazon has invested nearly $40 billion in India since 2010. According to the report, these investments, including employee compensation and infrastructure development, have helped make Amazon the largest foreign investor in India, the largest enabler of e-commerce exports, and among the top job creators in the country.
Keystone noted that Amazon has digitised over 12 million small businesses, enabled $20 billion in cumulative e-commerce exports and supported approximately 2.8 million direct, indirect, induced and seasonal jobs across industries in India in 2024. The company has invested in building fulfilment centres, transportation networks, data centres, digital payments infrastructure and technology development.
Amit Agarwal, Senior Vice President, Emerging Markets at Amazon, said the company would continue to align with India’s Atmanirbhar and Viksit Bharat vision, adding that by 2030 Amazon aims to democratise access to AI, create 1 million job opportunities and increase cumulative e-commerce exports to $80 billion.
With the fresh planned investment, Amazon said it aims to accelerate digital transformation, strengthen infrastructure and support innovation. The company said the spending will expand AI capabilities, enhance logistics infrastructure, support small businesses and create jobs.
By 2030, Amazon plans to generate an additional 1 million direct, indirect, induced and seasonal jobs, on top of the 2.8 million supported in 2024. These roles are expected to come from business expansion and the growth of its fulfilment and delivery networks, which also support related industries such as packaging, manufacturing and transportation.
Amazon Global Selling, which marks ten years of operations, has enabled more than $20 billion in cumulative exports from India. As part of its plan to reach $80 billion in exports by 2030, Amazon launched "Accelerate Exports", an initiative to connect digital entrepreneurs with manufacturers and help manufacturers become global sellers. The company will run onboarding drives across more than 10 manufacturing clusters, including Tirupur, Kanpur and Surat. At the summit, Amazon also announced a partnership with the Apparel Export Promotion Council of India to scale the programme.
The company outlined plans to expand the benefits of AI to small businesses, customers and students. By 2030, Amazon aims to bring AI tools to 15 million small businesses; enhance shopping experiences for hundreds of millions of customers through visual discovery, conversational shopping and multilingual features; and provide AI education and career exploration opportunities to 4 million government school students through curriculum support, technology tours, hands-on learning and teacher training.
