In a media statement, the spokesperson clarified that contrary to certain media reports, the summons "relate only to a FEMA inquiry and not to any matter under the PMLA." The spokesperson said the misreporting had occurred "without any diligence of facts."
According to the statement, Ambani has also offered to appear before the ED through virtual means.
Citing the ED's own press release, dated November 3, 2025, the spokesperson said the inquiry pertains to a 2010 FEMA case involving the Jaipur–Reengus highway project. The matter concerns issues related to a road contractor and involves a purely domestic EPC contract awarded by Reliance Infrastructure Ltd, with "no foreign exchange component involved whatsoever."
The Jaipur–Reengus Toll Road project has been fully completed and has been under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) since 2021, the statement added.
The spokesperson also said that Ambani was not involved in the project’s operations at the time. He served as a non-executive director at Reliance Infrastructure from April 2007 to March 2022 and "was never involved in day-to-day management of the company." He is currently not a member of the company’s board.
