What is the story about?
As many 1.19 crore shares, or 3.9% equity, of Ather Energy worth ₹1,758.2 crore changed hands in a block deal window on Friday, August 28.
The official buyers and sellers are not yet known.
As of July 20, 2026, promoter entities held 40% stake in Ather Energy while public shareholding comprised 60%, a1s per data available on the stock exchanges.
On another note, prior to the block deal, sources had told CNBC-TV18 that ₹Hero MotoCorp was looking at raising its stake further in Ather Energy by investing up to 1,758 crore for 2.92% equity.
Here MotoCorp's holding in Ather Energy is currently at 29.88%. Last month, it had invested nearly ₹1,000 crore for over 1% equity in Ather Energy.
On another note, earlier this week, Ather Energy's board approved the allotment of 16.3 lakh equity shares and 78.4 lakh convertible warrants as part of its 1,200 crore preferential fundraise. It allotted 16.3 lakh fully paid up shares to the India-Japan Fund at ₹1,230 apiece for around ₹200 crore, as per the exchange filing.
Meanwhile, Hero MotoCorp was allotted 76.2 lakh convertible warrants at ₹1,260 each, representing an investment of nearly ₹1,000 crore if the warrants are fully-converted into shares.
Shares of Ather Energy were up 2% in early trade at ₹1,523.7 apiece on Friday. The stock has risen 26.8% in the past month and is up over 106.3% this year, so far.
