Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) will hand over Tejas twin-seater trainer aircraft, HTT-40 basic trainers and Dhruv Next Generation helicopters to Indian operators at an event in Bengaluru on Friday, the Ministry of Defence said.
The handover of the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas Final Operational Clearance (FOC) twin-seater trainers and HTT-40 basic trainer aircraft to the Indian Air Force will take place on September 18. HAL will also hand over Dhruv NG helicopters to Pawan Hans Ltd, the ministry said in a statement.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu are scheduled to attend the event.
The event is intended to showcase HAL and its industry partners’ role in expanding India’s ability to design, develop and manufacture aerospace platforms for both military and civilian use, the ministry said.
Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, Defence Production Secretary Sanjeev Kumar, Civil Aviation Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha, HAL Chairman and Managing Director Ravi K and senior officials from the government, IAF, Pawan Hans, regulators and the aerospace and defence industries are also expected to attend.
The government has been pushing domestic design and manufacturing in the aerospace and defence sectors as part of efforts to reduce reliance on foreign suppliers.
The induction of the aircraft and helicopters is part of those efforts and is expected to add to India’s indigenous aerospace capabilities, the ministry said.
