What is the story about?
The Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA) has announced a 25% reduction in landing and parking charges at all major airports for domestic flights, effective immediately for three months.
The move follows directions from the Central government amid the ongoing West Asia crisis, with the aim of easing cost pressures on airlines.
What the order says
The decision has been issued under provisions of the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority of India Act, 2008, which allows tariff revisions in public interest.
AERA said it had deliberated on the government’s directive and decided to implement it as a matter of policy.
On revenue shortfall
The regulator clarified that any revenue shortfall arising from the reduced charges will be adjusted in future tariff cycles through the Aggregate Revenue Requirement (ARR) mechanism.
The statement read: ”Landing and parking charges (part of aeronautical tariff) at all major airports shall be reduced by 25% from the prevailing tariff. This reduction shall take effect immediately and will be applicable on all domestic flights for a period of three months. After due consideration, the Authority has decided to implement the directions issued by the government.”
