What is the story about?
Good morning!
Cybersecurity is in focus after the US National Security Agency and India’s CERT-In warned of critical vulnerabilities in PHP, a widely used programming language, that could allow hackers to take control of vulnerable servers. The warning comes a day after eMudhra disclosed a data breach, putting the spotlight on cyber risks and the security of digital infrastructure.
Oil prices are also surging as a drone strike on a Saudi Aramco oilfield revives fears of supply disruptions across West Asia. Brent crude has climbed towards $110 a barrel, with the widening conflict threatening energy infrastructure even as crude exports through the Strait of Hormuz have picked up pace.
Markets are navigating the impact of higher oil prices.
The rupee opened nearly flat at ₹94.47 against the dollar after eight consecutive sessions of gains, while gold and silver fell as rising crude prices fuel inflation concerns and complicate the outlook for interest rates.
Eternal shares slipped after Q2 results, but Motilal Oswal sees potential upside of 35% in the Zomato and Blinkit parent.
In corporate news, eBay plans to cut around 1,000 jobs, or about 9% of its workforce, following an earlier round of layoffs this year.
And on a festive note, the US Postal Service has unveiled a Diwali postage stamp featuring a rangoli design by Houston-based artist Sangita Bhutada.
