Priya Kapur, Non-Executive Director of Sona Comstar, spent two days at the company’s Chennai manufacturing plant and R&D centre, engaging with leadership, engineers and shop-floor employees.
The Chennai facility - a core part of the firm’s evolving powertrain strategy - has grown from a single-product unit into a broad innovation hub covering internal-combustion, hybrid and electric powertrain systems. During her visit Kapur emphasised that the company’s progress is rooted in “people - their passion, purpose and perseverance.”
She met teams working on in-house engineering initiatives and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to building a future-ready platform for sustainable mobility.
The visit takes place against the backdrop of a widely reported boardroom and inheritance dispute at Sona Comstar following the sudden passing of its chairman, Sunjay Kapur, in June 2025. His mother, Rani Kapur, has publicly alleged coercion in the post-mourning period and questioned changes in board appointments and shareholding, claims the company has described as “baseless and legally untenable.”
Sona Comstar has responded by stating that Kapur has held no shareholding or directorship since at least 2019 and that all governance processes remain compliant with regulatory norms. The company emphasised that its board is comprised of a professional management team and independent directors, and that the promoter entity holds only non-executive nomination rights.
