Neville Tata likely to join Sir Ratan Tata Trusts board this week

Neville Tata is likely to be inducted into the board of the Sir Ratan Tata Trusts this week, sources told CNBC-TV18.

A board meeting of the Sir Ratan Tata Trusts is scheduled to take place on January 17, where Neville Tata’s induction is expected to be considered. If approved, the move would mark his entry into both of the two principal trusts that anchor the Tata Trusts framework.

Neville Tata, 32, was inducted into the Sir Dorabjee Tata Trusts in November last year. The Sir Dorabjee Tata Trust and the Sir Ratan Tata Trust are the two main trusts within the Tata Trusts structure and together play a decisive role in overseeing the Tata Group through their holdings in Tata Sons.

As reported earlier by CNBC-TV18 on November 11, Neville Tata, the son of Tata Trusts Chairman Noel Tata, was appointed as a trustee of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust with effect from November 12. The trust holds a 27.98% stake in Tata Sons, making it the largest single shareholder in the Tata Group’s holding company.

At The Helm Of Zudio 

Neville Tata has been associated with Trent since 2016 and currently leads the fast-growing fashion brand Zudio. His induction into the trusts followed the resolution of internal tensions between the camp led by Noel Tata and that of Mehli Mistry, a close associate of the late Ratan Tata.

Mistry, who was removed from key trusts, chose not to challenge the decision legally. Around the same time, the trust boards also inducted Bhaskar Bhat, former managing director of Titan, and Venu Srinivasan, chairman of TVS Motor Company, as trustees.

Srinivasan, who is understood to be aligned with Noel Tata, was appointed vice chairman for a three-year term, in line with revised Maharashtra regulations that do not permit lifetime trustee appointments.
