May Auto Sales: Maruti Suzuki reports highest every figures for the month, beats expectations

Shares of Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. are looking to recover from the day's lows on Monday, June 1, after the country’s largest carmaker reported its highest-ever monthly sales and domestic sales volumes for May, beating street expectations.

The company reported total sales of 2,42,688 units in May 2026, up 34.8% from the 1,80,077 units sold in the same month last year and ahead of the CNBC-TV18 poll estimate of 223,000 units. Domestic sales, including sales to other OEMs, rose 34.9% year-on-year to 2,00,774 units from 1,48,858 units a year ago.

Maruti Suzuki said domestic passenger vehicle sales increased 40% to 1,90,337 units from 1,35,962 units in May 2025, while exports rose 34.3% to 41,914 units from 31,219 units. Sales to other OEMs stood at 7,239 units during the month, compared to 10,168 units a year ago.

According to the company, May marked its highest-ever monthly sales volume, with domestic sales also reaching an all-time high of 1,93,535 units, including light commercial vehicles.

Utility vehicles continued to be a key growth driver for the company. Sales of models such as the Brezza, Ertiga, Fronx, Grand Vitara, Invicto, Jimny, Victoris and XL6 rose 44.4% year-on-year to 79,267 units from 54,899 units a year ago.

The passenger car segment, which includes models such as the Baleno, Swift, WagonR and Dzire, reported sales of 97,830 units, up 42.3% from 68,736 units in the year-ago period. Sales of the Eeco van increased 7.4% to 13,240 units, while Super Carry light commercial vehicle sales rose 17.2% to 3,198 units.

For the first two months of FY27, Maruti Suzuki reported total sales of 4,82,334 units, up 34% from 359,868 units in the corresponding period last year. Exports during April-May rose to 81,968 units from 59,130 units a year ago.

Last month, Maruti Suzuki said it expects to outperform industry growth, with management indicating that company growth could exceed 10% in FY27.

Shares of Maruti Suzuki India are trading 0.4% lower after the sales announcement at ₹13,072. The stock is down 22% so far in May.
