FIIs buy Indian stocks for third straight day; DIIs return as buyers as Sensex falls 388 points

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) remained net buyers in Indian equities for a third straight session on Tuesday, August 11, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) reversed the previous day's selling trend and turned net buyers.

FIIs bought equities worth ₹14,628.47 crore and sold shares worth ₹14,369.92 crore, resulting in net buying of ₹258.55 crore, according to provisional data.

DIIs, meanwhile, bought equities worth ₹15,006.72 crore and sold shares worth ₹14,981.95 crore. This resulted in net buying of ₹24.77 crore during the session.

On Tuesday, the combined net buying by FIIs and DIIs stood at ₹283.32 crore.

The latest data marks a reversal in DII activity from Monday, when domestic institutional investors were net sellers

of ₹1,290.29 crore. FIIs, on the other hand, had remained net buyers on Monday, with purchases exceeding sales by ₹1,974.76 crore.

The institutional inflow comes as Indian equity markets ended in the red after a rangebound session, with the Nifty closing below the 24,500 mark. The Nifty fell 112 points to 24,472, while the Sensex declined 388 points to 78,154.

The Nifty Bank index slipped 241 points to 57,446, while the Midcap index fell 12 points to 63,843.

The indices adjusted by 22 points for the Nifty, 6 points for the Sensex and 80 points for the Nifty Bank after the closing auction session (CAS).

Among stocks, Max Health and Apollo Hospitals ended lower following recommendations by a parliamentary panel on hospital price caps.

Zydus Life surged more than 7% after the company reported its Q1 results. Kolte Patil gained 12%, while Bosch rose 4%, also following strong Q1 results.

Vedanta group companies came off their highs in the last hour of trade amid reports that promoters may buy and sell stakes in group companies.

MCX rose more than 4% after reports that SEBI may allow FPI trades in non-agricultural commodities.

The Indian rupee weakened to ₹95.44 against the US dollar at Tuesday’s close, compared with Monday’s closing level of ₹95.30 per dollar.
