Havells India, HPL Group settle ₹129.6 crore trademark dispute

Havells India Ltd on Sunday, November 9,  said it has reached a full and final settlement with the HPL Group, ending a long-standing trademark dispute over the use of the ‘Havells’ name.

Under the agreement, Havells will pay ₹129.6 crore to the HPL Group as a one-time settlement.

The company said the settlement, signed on November 8, 2025, resolves all pending litigations in various courts, including the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court.

The matter had been referred to mediation by the Delhi High

Court, according to the exchange filing.

As part of the agreement, the HPL Group has acknowledged Havells India and its promoters’ absolute rights to the ‘Havells’ trademark since 1971. It has also waived any claims to the name and agreed not to use or challenge it in any form.

Further, the HPL Group will rename its entities — Havell’s Private Ltd and Havells Electronics Private Ltd — to titles that do not contain the ‘Havells’ name, bringing a definitive end to the decades-old trademark dispute.
