Trump accepts Nobel medal presented by Venezuela’s opposition leader Machado

Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado said she had presented her Nobel Peace Prize to US President Donald Trump on Thursday, January 15, during a high-stakes encounter that could affect how Trump seeks to shape the South American country’s political future.

Machado, who described the meeting as "excellent," told reporters she had done so in recognition of his commitment to the freedom of the Venezuelan people.

Her gesture appeared to be part of her effort to gain influence over the future direction of her country. Trump openly campaigned for the prize before Machado was awarded it last month.

Indian Rupee under pressure: Currency falls 10 paise to 90.44 against US dollar in early trade

In early trading on Friday, the rupee lost 10 paise to 90.44 against the US dollar, continuing its downward trend for the third consecutive session. This decline was caused by a persistent outflow of foreign funds and a strong US dollar. A sharp decline in the home currency was avoided, according to forex traders, by lower crude oil prices and a favourable equities market mood.

Metal prices fall as China tightens high-frequency trade after major volatility

Following intense activity in mainland futures that fuelled global price rises, China tightened down on high-frequency trading, which caused metals to fall at the close of a rollercoaster week.

Regulators have asked bourses, including the primary commodities platform, the Shanghai Futures Exchange, to remove servers run by high-frequency traders from their data centres. Aluminium, copper, and zinc all saw declines in Shanghai and on the London Metal Exchange, which determines the metals' benchmark pricing globally.

Infosys shares rise 4% after guidance raise, sharp surge in ADR after Q3

Shares of technology bellwether Infosys Ltd., India's second-largest IT services company, opened 4% higher on Friday, January 16, after the company announced its quarterly results post-market hours on Wednesday. Infosys' American Depositary Receipts were the first to react to the earnings, ending nearly 10% higher on Wall Street. In the domestic market, the stock had closed 0.62% higher at ₹1,608.90 ahead of the results announcement.



L&T Tech cuts guidance, brokerages trim share price target, expectations

Shares of L&T Technology Services (LTTS) opened lower on Friday, January 16, after it reported weaker-than-expected third quarter, impacted by an ongoing business recalibration that weighed on revenues. LTTS has decided not to pursue renewals in select low margin accounts as it pivots its strategy towards improving profitability. Constant currency revenue declined 2.8% quarter-on-quarter, compared with expectations of 1.5% growth. EBIT margin, however, came in at 14.6%, ahead of estimates of 13.7%.



Cipla shares fall 4% after brokerage downgrades, target cuts on temporary halt to key drug production

Shares of drugmaker Cipla Ltd. fell as much as 4% in early trading on Friday, January 16, after the company said in an exchange filing that it is temporarily pausing the manufacturing of a key drug. Cipla said that the manufacturing of the drug Lanreotide is being temporarily stopped to support the USFDA remediation at the facility which produces the said drug.
