Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado said she had presented her Nobel Peace Prize to US President Donald Trump on Thursday, January 15, during a high-stakes encounter that could affect how Trump seeks to shape the South American country’s political future.
Machado, who described the meeting as "excellent," told reporters she had done so in recognition of his commitment to the freedom of the Venezuelan people.
Her gesture appeared to be part of her effort to gain influence over the future direction of her country. Trump openly campaigned for the prize before Machado was awarded it last month.

Metal prices fall as China tightens high-frequency trade after major volatility
Following intense activity in mainland futures that fuelled global price rises, China tightened down on high-frequency trading, which caused metals to fall at the close of a rollercoaster week.
Regulators have asked bourses, including the primary commodities platform, the Shanghai Futures Exchange, to remove servers run by high-frequency traders from their data centres. Aluminium, copper, and zinc all saw declines in Shanghai and on the London Metal Exchange, which determines the metals' benchmark pricing globally.

Shares of technology bellwether Infosys Ltd., India's second-largest IT services company, opened 4% higher on Friday, January 16, after the company announced its quarterly results post-market hours on Wednesday. Shares of L&T Technology Services (LTTS) opened lower on Friday, January 16, after it reported weaker-than-expected third quarter, impacted by an ongoing business recalibration that weighed on revenues. LTTS has decided not to pursue renewals in select low margin accounts as it pivots its strategy towards improving profitability. Constant currency revenue declined 2.8% quarter-on-quarter, compared with expectations of 1.5% growth. EBIT margin, however, came in at 14.6%, ahead of estimates of 13.7%.
Cipla shares fall 4% after brokerage downgrades, target cuts on temporary halt to key drug production
