BCCL July coal production rises over 3% to 2.45 million tonnes; offtake jumps 11%

State-owned Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) reported a 3.4% year-on-year increase in raw coal production for July 2026, while coal offtake rose nearly 11%, according to the company's provisional monthly production data.

Raw coal production stood at 2.45 million tonnes (MT) in July, compared with 2.37 MT in the same month last year.

Coking coal production, which forms the bulk of BCCL's output, increased 4.6% year-on-year to 2.37 MT from 2.26 MT. However, non-coking coal production declined 22.1% to 0.08 MT from 0.10 MT a year earlier.

Coal offtake (raw coal) grew 10.9% to 2.83 MT in July 2026, up from 2.55 MT in July 2025, indicating healthy dispatches during the month.

Production from underground mines rose 12.5% year-on-year to 0.05 MT, while output from opencast mines increased 3.3% to 2.40 MT.

BCCL also reported a sharp rise in washed coking coal production, which climbed 37.2% to 0.14 MT from 0.10 MT in the corresponding month last year.

Overburden removal, a key operational metric, increased 3.1% to 10.46 million cubic metres (CuM) during the month.

April-July performance remains lower

Despite the improvement in July, BCCL's cumulative production for the first four months of FY27 remained below last year's levels.

Raw coal production during April-July 2026 stood at 9.00 MT, down 21.1% from 11.41 MT in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.

Coking coal production fell 21.2% to 8.57 MT, while non-coking coal output declined 19.4% to 0.43 MT.

Opencast mine production dropped 21.5% to 8.79 MT, although underground mine production edged up 4.5% to 0.21 MT during the period.

Washed coking coal production bucked the trend, rising 9% to 0.56 MT. Meanwhile, overburden removal declined 27.2% to 43.41 million CuM, and raw coal offtake fell 8.2% to 10.58 MT during April-July FY27.
