BEML Limited'sboard has approved an estimated investment of around ₹1,500 crore to set up a greenfield rail manufacturing facility, named BRAHMA, at Umariya near Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh.
In a regulatory filing on Saturday, February 7, the state-owned company said the project will be funded through long-term debt and will be implemented in a phased manner over the next five years.
According to the company, the proposed facility aims to strengthen BEML’s manufacturing capabilities, particularly in the rail and mobility segment.
The investment decision comes as BEML looks to expand capacity to cater to growing opportunities in rail manufacturing, aligned with India’s broader push to scale up domestic production and infrastructure development.
BEML reported a net loss of ₹22.4 crore for Q3FY26 , compared to a net profit of ₹24 crore in the same quarter last year, while a CNBC-TV18 poll had projected a net profit of ₹48 crore. Revenue for the quarter increased by 23.7% from last year to ₹1,083 crore from ₹875.8 crore earlier.
The company's EBITDA was nearly wiped out during the quarter, declining by 94% to just ₹4 crore, compared to ₹60.4 crore last year.
Shares of BEML fell after the weak Q3 results, ending 6.68% lower at ₹1,629.50 on Friday, ahead of the investment announcement.
