What is the story about?
Zydus Lifesciences Ltd. has informed the exchanges that its ₹1,100 crore share buyback will open on Thursday, June 4, and will last for four trading sessions, to end on Wednesday, June 10.
Under the buyback terms, Zydus Life will now be buying 87,30,158 equity shares of the company, which it revised last week and also raised the price of the share buyback to ₹1,260 per share from ₹1,150 earlier.
Under the share buyback terms, Zydus Lifesciences will accept five equity shares for every 49 shares held by small shareholders as on the record date.
At the end of the March quarter, Zydus Life had over 4 lakh small retail shareholders, or those with authorized share capital of up to ₹2 lakh, who owned a 4.8% stake in the company.
Friday, May 29, was the record date for the share buyback. This means, that those shareholders who had shares of the company in their demat account before this date, which is May 28, will be eligible to tender their shares in the buyback.
For general category of shareholders, the company will accept seven equity shares for every 937 shares that they held as on the record date.
This is the third instance of the company carrying out a share buyback since 2022. The previous one was done back in 2024 at a price of ₹1,005 per share.
The earlier buyback, done in 2022, was done at ₹650 per share.
Promoters of the company had participated in both the previous share buybacks.
Shares of Zydus Life ended 0.3% lower on Friday at ₹1,082. The stock is still up 18% so far this year.
