An Air India flight from San Francisco to New Delhi was diverted to Mongolia after a technical issue was suspected by the crew, the airline said in a statement on Monday, November 3.
The flight AI174, which was supposed to land at Kolkata stopover, made a precautionary landing in Ulaanbaatar and underwent safety checks at the airport.
"AI174 of 02 November, operating from San Francisco to Delhi via Kolkata, made a precautionary landing at Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, after the flight crew suspected a technical issue enroute," an Air India spokesperson said in a statement.
"The aircraft landed safely at Ulaanbaatar and is undergoing the necessary checks," it added.
The airline further stated that it was making necessary efforts to support the passengers. "We are working closely with our partners to support all passengers while we make efforts to get everyone on their way to the destination at the earliest opportunity," the statement read.
Air India added that the inconvenience is regretted, affirming commitments to safety of the passengers.
"We regret the inconvenience caused to passengers due to the unforeseen situation. At Air India, the safety of passengers and crew remains a top priority," it said.
According to the Air India flight status tracking system, the AI174 took off from San Francisco at 2:47 pm on November 2 and landed in Ulaanbaatar at 7:40 pm.
The flight then underwent checks at the airport.
The AI174 departed Kolkata's Subhas Chandra Bose Airport at 00:28 am on November 3 and landed at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport at 3:04 am on the same day.
