EID Parry Q1 profit falls 42.5% as sugar business stays under pressure

Murugappa Group-owned E.I.D.-Parry (India) Ltd. reported a 42.5% year-on-year decline in consolidated profit after tax attributable to owners of the company to ₹141.60 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, as higher expenses and weaker performance in some of its key businesses weighed on earnings.

The company had reported a profit of ₹246.28 crore in the year-ago quarter.

Consolidated revenue from operations rose 3.4% to ₹9,017.52 crore from ₹8,719.75 crore a year earlier.

Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) fell 6.8% to ₹750.6 crore from ₹805.4 crore. EBITDA margin narrowed to 8.3% from 9.2% in the corresponding quarter last year.

Total expenses increased 5.3% to ₹8,624.59 crore from ₹8,193.94 crore.

On a sequential basis, E.I.D.-Parry swung to a profit attributable to owners of ₹141.60 crore from a loss of ₹333.30 crore in the March quarter. Revenue from operations increased 14.4% from ₹7,882.33 crore, while total expenses rose 13.3% from ₹7,615.11 crore.

Nutrient business remains biggest revenue contributor

The nutrient and allied business remained E.I.D.-Parry's largest segment by revenue, generating ₹6,951.03 crore during the June quarter, up 9.5% from ₹6,345.81 crore a year earlier.

Profitability in the segment, however, weakened. The segment result declined to ₹478.91 crore from ₹629.48 crore in the year-ago quarter.

The crop protection business recorded a sharp increase in revenue to ₹1,250.76 crore from ₹724.85 crore. Its segment result also improved to ₹170.15 crore from ₹111.16 crore.

The sugar business, meanwhile, recorded revenue of ₹475 crore, down sharply from ₹1,258.34 crore a year earlier. Its loss before tax and interest widened to ₹44.83 crore from ₹30.44 crore.

Co-generation revenue declined to ₹6.66 crore from ₹7.53 crore, while the segment loss widened to ₹21.93 crore from ₹19.50 crore.

Distillery revenue fell to ₹254.82 crore from ₹295.28 crore, while segment profit declined to ₹8.66 crore from ₹20.27 crore.

Nutraceuticals revenue more than doubled to ₹61.08 crore from ₹26.94 crore. The segment's loss narrowed sharply to ₹0.11 crore from ₹9.97 crore.

Consumer products revenue declined to ₹94.20 crore from ₹187.99 crore, while the segment loss narrowed to ₹11.98 crore from ₹17.47 crore.

The Chennai-based company operates six sugar factories with an aggregate crushing capacity of 40,800 tonnes a day. It also has 140 MW of co-generation capacity and five distilleries with a combined capacity of 582 kilolitres a day.

Shares of E.I.D.-Parry were trading 2.02% lower at ₹772.55 on the National Stock Exchange.
