As is the case with year-end trading, the range on the Nifty remains very narrow, with prices barely budging from where they were in the previous session. Yet, the final expiry of the year brought with it a fair degree of volatility.

The index has managed to defend 25,900 on the downside, and that will be the first level to watch. 26,000 has plenty of interest from Call writers still, and crossing that may lead to a move back towards the 26,200 mark.

The Nifty has the Nifty Bank to thank for its recovery on Tuesday despite potential outflows from heavyweights ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank; the index outperformed with gains of 250 points and also closed above the 59,150 mark. 59,500 remains a key hurdle on the upside. Today is the start of the January F&O series, where four stocks, Swiggy, Premier Energies, Waaree Energies and Bajaj Holdings, enter the F&O space, while four have exited.

Stocks like Bharat Forge will be in focus due to a defence order, while a block deal is likely in Privi Speciality Chemicals.
