The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will remain closed tomorrow, 15 January 2026, on account of the Maharashtra civic body elections.
The NSE announced on January 12, that
both the capital market and debt segments will observe a trading holiday, clarifying earlier confusion when it had initially indicated that trading would continue. The exchange has also released the full list of market holidays for the year.
Similarly, the BSE declared a holiday for both its equity and derivatives segments on 15 January. Investors and traders are advised to plan their activities accordingly and stay updated with any further notifications from the exchanges.

Maharashtra Civic Elections 2026
Elections to 29 civic bodies in Maharashtra, including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), will take place tomorrow, with results scheduled for 16 January. A total of 2,869 seats across 893 wards are being contested by 15,931 candidates.
This will be the first BMC election following the split between Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party. The poll also marks the first collaboration between Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT).
