What is the story about?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Tufan Erginbilgic, CEO of Rolls-Royce, in New Delhi on Wednesday to discuss plans to scale up the company’s operations in India under the Viksit Bharat vision.
“It was wonderful meeting Mr. Tufan Erginbilgic, CEO of Rolls-Royce earlier today,” Modi said in a post on X. “We welcome Rolls-Royce’s enthusiasm towards scaling up its activities in India and partnering with our innovative and dynamic youth,” he said.
Rolls-Royce said Erginbilgic discussed how the company is expanding its presence in India.
“Our CEO Tufan Erginbilgic met Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi today to discuss how Rolls-Royce is scaling up to be a part of Viksit Bharat, including expanding its GCC to be the largest globally, co-creating complex manufacturing and building high-value engineering capabilities,” the company said.
The company said Erginbilgic and Sashi Mukundan, India EVP, also spoke to the Prime Minister about how Rolls-Royce’s advanced technologies can support India’s Atmanirbhar journey in defence and critical sectors.
The discussions included plans to expand Rolls-Royce’s Global Capability Centre into its largest such facility worldwide. The company recently inaugurated its expanded Global Capability and Innovation Centre in Bengaluru. It said the centre is on track to become its largest capability hub globally, supporting civil aerospace, defence and power systems businesses.
The meeting comes after Erginbilgic’s earlier remarks in October 2025, when he said Rolls-Royce has “deep ambitions” to develop India as a home market.
“We have deep ambitions to develop India as a home for Rolls-Royce, building on our strong and successful partnership,” he had said at the time.
Rolls-Royce has said it intends to contribute to India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat goals by strengthening local partnerships, investing in skills and talent development, and increasing sourcing from Indian suppliers.
