Mazumdar-Shaw, founder and chairperson of Biocon, has indicated she is working on a succession plan, saying her niece Claire Mazumdar will transition into her role “at the right time” as she prepares the company for a future leadership shift.
"Claire will transition into my role at the right time so not planning to hang up my boots just yet!," Mazumdar-Shaw said on X (formerly Twitter).
Earlier in an interview with Fortune India she had said: "I am the sole owner of Biocon, and I need to make sure that I put it in good hands... I have seen my niece Claire as my successor, because I think she has proved to me that she can run a company."
The move signals the 73-year-old industry veteran’s efforts to position the firm for its next phase, with a sharper focus on advanced biotechnology and artificial intelligence (AI).

She has also worked as a Senior Associate at Third Rock Ventures, where she worked on company creation and supported business development initiatives across the firm’s portfolio.
Claire now also serves on the Board of Directors of Relay Therapeutics and Noora Health, a non-profit focused on improving patient outcomes and strengthening health systems by training family caregivers.
