Foreign investors extend buying streak with ₹3,624 crore inflow as DIIs turn sellers after five sessions

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) remained net buyers of Indian equities on Thursday, purchasing shares worth ₹3,623.51 crore on a provisional basis, according to exchange data.

The buying by overseas investors came as domestic institutional investors (DIIs) turned net sellers after five consecutive sessions of purchases. DIIs sold equities worth ₹1,864.03 crore on a provisional basis.



According to the provisional data, FIIs bought equities worth ₹17,431.96 crore and sold shares worth ₹13,808.45 crore, resulting in a net inflow of ₹3,623.51 crore.

DIIs, meanwhile, purchased equities worth ₹17,979.63 crore but sold shares worth ₹19,843.66 crore, leading to net outflows of ₹1,864.03 crore on the day.

However, Indian benchmark indices ended higher on Thursday despite weak global cues and domestic institutional investors (DIIs) turning net sellers after five sessions of buying.

The Sensex rose 274 points to close at 77,928, while the Nifty 50 gained 67 points to settle at 24,317, ending above the 24,300 mark. In contrast, the Nifty Bank index slipped 58 points to 57,148, while the Nifty Midcap index fell 221 points to 62,642, reflecting weakness in the broader market.

Banking stocks recovered from the day's lows, with HDFC Bank and State Bank of India ending in positive territory. However, market breadth remained negative as declines outpaced advances, weighed down by weakness in midcap stocks.

Among gainers, Mahindra & Mahindra was the top performer on the Nifty, rising about 2% on strong internals, while Eicher Motors also ended higher. Maruti Suzuki gained nearly 2.5% ahead of its quarterly earnings, while Hero MotoCorp climbed more than 3% on expectations of improved monthly sales.

On the downside, Adani Ports was the top Nifty loser, falling more than 3% for a second straight session. KPIT Technologies declined over 7% after issuing a cautious outlook, while Prestige Estates Projects and Waaree Energies fell 4-5% following their June quarter earnings.

Among other stocks, Sona BLW Precision Forgings advanced 6% on healthy volumes, Exide Industries gained 4% after reporting double-digit growth across segments, and Swiggy rose 3% ahead of its quarterly results. MTAR Technologies surged 5% to hit the upper circuit after reporting strong June quarter earnings.
