Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) reported a gas leak during workover operations at its Mori field facility in Andhra Pradesh, with the incident being flagged by operator Deep Industries. The company said there were no casualties or injuries linked to the leak, underscoring that safety risks to the public remain minimal.
According to ONGC, the affected well is located in a remote area with no human habitation within a radius of around 500–600 metres. As a precautionary measure, the site has been secured and cooling operations have been initiated to stabilise the situation. The company has also mobilised its Crisis Management Team and Regional Crisis Management Team to oversee containment and response efforts.

ONGC’s senior management and technical experts are closely monitoring developments, with the company stating that updates will be shared as the situation evolves. The incident highlights the operational risks associated with workover activities, even as ONGC maintains that the leak has been managed without any impact on human life.
ONGC shares closed 1.41% lower at ₹238.05 on the NSE on January 5, down ₹3.41 as of 3:30 pm.
