L&T inks MoU with Holtec's Asia arm to design and build solutions for heat transfer equipment

Larsen and Toubro (L&T) Ltd. on Monday, November 3, said its heavy engineering business vertical signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the US-based nuclear energy solutions provider Holtec International's Asia arm.

The MoU is for design and build solutions for heat transfer equipment.

L&T said it is already in partnership with Holtec for global deployment of small modular reactor (SMR)-300, which is designed by the latter. This is supported by the 810 Authorisation granted to L&T by the US's Department of Energy. The recent MoU builds on this partnership, it said.

The collaboration will combine L&T's nuclear manufacturing capabilities and Holtec's design expertise to deliver solutions for nuclear and thermal power plants worldwide, especially heat transfer solutions for conventional power plant island and balance of plant, L&T said.

Together, both firms will drive the development of reliable, resilient technology that can optimise thermal regulation, maxmimise cycle efficiency and ensure reliable operation of power plants, thus contributing to global energy transition, L&T said.

Last week, L&T said it has partnered with the US-headquarted General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc. (GA-ASI) to manufacture Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS) in India for the Indian Armed forces.

As per the partnership, L&T will participate in the upcoming 87 MALE RPAS programme of the ministry of defence, where it will be the prime bidder and GA-ASI will be the technology partner.

The collaboration will enable the production of the MQ-series RPAS of GA-ASI, which are combat proven, the company said. These are operational across the globe with millions of flight hours in surveillance and strike missions, L&T added.

L&T shares were trading 0.3% lower at ₹4,018.2 apiece around 11.50 am. The stock has gained 7.6% in the past month and 20.6% in the last six months.
