What is the story about?
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Friday, October 16, invited Hyundai Motor to establish a car manufacturing facility in the state, assuring the company of all possible support to expand its industrial presence.
He also directed officials to expedite pending approvals for Hyundai Motor India Engineering’s (HMIE) proposed Integrated Global Research and Development (R&D) facility at the National Investment and Manufacturing Zone (NIMZ) in Zaheerabad, Sangareddy district.
A delegation led by HMIE Managing Director Changyeon Cho met the Chief Minister at the Bodhi Pavilion to discuss the project's progress. The facility entails an investment of ₹8,528 crore and is expected to generate 4,276 jobs. It is proposed to be developed in phases across 678 acres.
The Hyundai delegation informed the Chief Minister that work on the proposed R&D facility was progressing and that the project would be ready for groundbreaking in the next few months.
Hyundai has had a presence in Hyderabad for around two decades, with its Hitec City facility serving as a major R&D centre supporting advanced vehicle engineering. The proposed Zaheerabad facility, which will include a mega test centre, is expected to strengthen the company's engineering capabilities by supporting vehicle testing, validation and improvements in engineering processes.
The Telangana Cabinet sub-committee on industrial and investment promotion approved Hyundai's proposal in June 2025. The project follows discussions between the state government and Hyundai representatives during the World Economic Forum meeting in 2024, when the state delegation sought to attract investments to Telangana.
CM pitches Hyderabad as manufacturing hub
Revanth Reddy highlighted Hyderabad's strategic location, infrastructure and quality of life while pitching Telangana as an ideal destination for automobile manufacturing.
“We are centrally located in the country, and Hyderabad is known for being cosmopolitan, safest and having most livable conditions among the six metropolitan Indian cities,” he said, assuring the company of the government's support in expediting the project.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the state's dedicated mobility clusters, connectivity through road, rail and air networks, and plans to improve high-speed connectivity to ports. He said Telangana was preparing for rapid industrial expansion through spatial development frameworks such as the Peri-Urban Region (PURE) initiative.
Hyundai's vision aligns with Telangana Rising 2047
The Chief Minister outlined the state government's vision to develop Bharat Future City as a world-class satellite city and invited Hyundai's leadership to participate in the Invest Telangana Global Summit 2026.
Changyeon Cho said Hyundai's plans to strengthen Hyderabad's position as a global hub for technology and advanced engineering aligned with the Telangana Rising 2047 vision.
The meeting was attended by K Ramakrishna Rao, Advisor and Ex-Officio Special Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister, Sangareddy Collector Prateek Jain and other senior officials.
